InsideGOOD also helps nonprofit organizations pinpoint areas for improvement and highlight their capabilities and effectiveness to donors and potential employees and volunteers.

Through the information and networking opportunities provided on insideGOOD, we strive to be a helpful resource for all of the people who devote their time, money and careers to this industry. We believe that, through these connections, the challenges and opportunities unique to nonprofits may be better understood and better addressed by all.

How It Works

InsideGOOD is an open forum; anyone involved or interested in the nonprofit world can visit the site to view ratings or to submit a rating. Use of the site is completely free of charge.

Viewing Ratings

Any site visitor can view nonprofit ratings by visiting an organization’s Ratings Summary Page. To find an organization’s Ratings Summary Page, use the Search Box at the top of the website. Simply enter an organization name, city, state, or activity - or any combination of these fields - and click on the "Search" button to view your results.

For more information on Viewing Nonprofit Ratings, such as “How do I contact an organization’s Raters?”, please visit our Help page.

Registration

Registration with insideGOOD is not required to view ratings, but is required in order to post a rating or any other information to the site.

We tried to keep registration as simple as possible. From any page on the site, click the "Sign Up Now" button in the upper right-hand corner of the top navigation bar. Then, create your account by entering information on the Sign Up page, such as your email address and the answers to a few demographic questions. Your account will be confirmed by an email sent to the address you entered.

Once you've registered, you can update your information at any time on the "My Account" page.

For more information on our Registration process, such as “Why do you need my demographic information?”, please visit our Help page.

Rating Nonprofits

After you've registered with insideGOOD, you are eligible to rate any of the nonprofits in our database with which you have personal experience as an Employee, Intern, Volunteer or Donor. If a nonprofit is not in our database, a rating cannot be submitted for that particular organization at this time (Nonprofits must meet particular inclusion criteria. For more information, see the "Our Database" section below). You can rate the same organization once every 90 days, or once per quarter.

The Rating Survey

Ratings are submitted via a Rating Survey. The survey consists of 3 sections:
  • Categorical Questions: The answers to these questions help us to categorize surveys by user type (Employee, Intern, Volunteer or Donor), time period worked with the organization, etc.
  •
  • Evaluation Questions: These focus on the personal experience of the user in the given role.
  •
  • Comments: A free-text section where a user can elaborate on personal perspectives and opinions.

The Evaluation Questions are grouped into seven Categories that pertain to the individual experience: My Role, My Manager, Recognition, Work Environment, Resources, Leadership, and My Development.

The Evaluation Question responses are based on a scale of 1 to 6, where 1 is "Never the Case" and 6 is "Always the Case." The more positively rated the organization, the higher the score. The numeric responses to each question are averaged across the total number of responses to that question. Then the average scores per question are averaged into a total score per category. This is visible on the organization’s profile page. The average scores per category are averaged into an overall score for the organization.

Detailed reports of the question averages, and other information, will be made available in the future.
