Colorado CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates: www.coloradocasa.org) is the statewide coordinating agency for CASA in Colorado. Colorado CASA and the 17 local CASA programs in Colorado work cooperatively with the Department of Human Services, the county courts and other child serving agencies to improve the lives of abused and neglected children in Colorado. Over 900 Colorado CASA volunteers are paired with children statewide serving some 3,000 children annually. Our goal is to provide CASA volunteers for the over 7,000 children who need an advocate in the state.

Colorado CASA is a 501(c)(3) agency which is funded through foundation, corporate and individual donations, as well as through state government funding. It is part of the National CASA Association (www.nationalcasa.org), a network of over 1,000 state and local CASA programs across the country.

Colorado CASA's main objectives are to raise the profile of CASA throughout Colorado, assist with fundraising for all CASA programs, to provide coordination and leadership for CASA throughout the state and coordinate networking with child welfare and protection agencies throughout the state. Uniquely among state CASA organizations, Colorado CASA also directly manages some local CASA programs in rural areas which are in the start-up phase.

The Executive Director reports to an independent Board of Directors and directly manages a team of 4-6, with a full statewide staff of 15. We are seeking an experienced not-for-profit leader with a proven track record in public relations, legislative affairs, financial management, fund raising and program management. Must have in-depth knowledge of child protection and welfare issues. Must be a dynamic public speaker, effective communicator, team builder, networker, staff leader and effective fund raiser.

A minimum of five years of executive leadership experience and a masters degree are preferred. Frequent travel (including overnight) throughout the state by car and occasional out-of-state travel by car and/or plane are required. The Philanthropist: Four-time Tour winner Notah Begay, 37, is battling obesity and diabetes among Native American youths

Published: December 01, 2009

"Type-2 Diabetes is an enormous problem in this country, but in Native American communities, it's an epidemic. My uncle just died of heart failure at 60. My mom has diabetes, my grandmother died of diabetes, and my first cousin lost his foot to diabetes. There's not one family in what we call 'Indian Country' that's not personally dealing with this illness.

"Type-2 diabetes is preventable — the way to curb this problem is to address the health and wellness of the Native American youth. The Notah Begay III Foundation uses golf and soccer to provide health education to communities that have historically seen youth programs come and go with grant cycles. Luckily, I didn't sleep through all my classes at Stanford [Begay has an economics degree], and I make sure that our donors' gifts are invested productively and responsibly to create a sustainable program that will serve the community for decades.

"We've raised a lot of money through two Notah Begay Challenge skins games, with help from some of my friends like Mike Weir, Camilo Villegas and my 'brother,' Tiger Woods. Hopefully, we can move the needle on diabetes in these communities for a whole generation."
